Forrest J. “Woody” Erickson, age 87 of Dodgeville, died on Monday, May 1, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison due to various health complications.
Woody was the son of Herman and Matilda Erickson of Cashton. A graduate of UW-River Falls with a Masters from UW-Madison, he was an Agriculture Teacher at Mauston for seven years before becoming a State Farm Agent for almost 52 years. Woody served four years in the U.S. Navy. Being very industrious and particular, he obtained a CLU Degree in Insurance. He was a member of the American Society of CLU and CHFC, WI ALU; WI Life Underwriters; SW Life Assoc. and WALU where he was always an officer or member of the Board of Directors. In the community, he was an officer of the Kiwanis Club and Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce. Working with the youth, he spent 49 years being either a Sunday School Teacher or else Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was also a Gideon.
Woody is survived by his wife, Donna, being married for 63 years; his sons, Timothy of Appleton and Gregory of Dodgeville; his daughter, Karen of Orland Park, IL; grandchildren, Melody of Appleton and James of Oshkosh; a great granddaughter, Elayna of Appleton. A niece, Sandra Haase of Mankato, MN as well as many cousins in WI and other states.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 with visitation from 9:30 A.M. until 11:45 A.M. followed by services at 12:00 Noon at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville. Pastor Mark Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Winchester, WI. Gifts can be directed to a scholarship fund, to the church or funds for the homeless.
