PORTAGE - Estella "Joan" (Guinn) Carbaugh, age 79, formerly of Lawrence, Kan., died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Tivoli Health Care Center in Portage.
Joan was born on Aug. 4, 1933, the daughter of Merle and Estella (Lange) Guinn of Tonganoxie, Kan. She graduated from Tonganoxie High School in Tonganoxie, Kan., in 1951, where she was a band member, cheerleader, and Thespian.
Joan was united in marriage to Donald Ray Carbaugh on Sept. 28, 1952, in Tonganoxie, Kan. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 2010. Joan was active in her local Home Economist Unit and as a 4H Project Leader to share her talents in gardening, sewing, and cooking.
For many years, she worked as an office manager and later, as a home care provider. Most of all, she loved to hike and fish with her grandchildren. Joan was a woman of great faith and a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Bradford (Ken Rolfsmeyer) of Madison and Donna (Joe) Baker of Baraboo; son, Kevin Carbaugh of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers, Dean (Lavera) Guinn of Cascade and Doug (Sally) Guinn of Green Bay; sister, Maybelle Wilson of Ottawa, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at TIVOLI HEALTH CARE CENTER, 2805 Hunters Trail, Portage, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013. A luncheon will follow. Burial will be held in June at Hubbel Hill Cemetery in Tonganoxie, Kan.
