ARLINGTON-Ervin Robert Stiemke, age 93, passed away peacefully at Meriter Hospital and entered his eternal home on Friday, August 29, 2014.
He was born on the family homestead in the town of Leeds on October 7, 1920, the son of Gustave and Annette (Manthe) Stiemke. Ervin was united in marriage to Henrietta A. Kroncke on June 11, 1942 in Arlington. He was a lifelong farmer in the town of Leeds, a member of the DeForest School Board, Rio Co-op Director, and was elected Supervisor to Columbia County Board, loved to fish, and was an auctioneer. He was also a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as council member, Chairman and Financial Secretary.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Henrietta; five children, Ervin (Sandy), Connie (Richard) Ness, George (Debi), Peggy, and Gary (Joni); nine grandchildren, Jarred (Amanda) Stiemke, Julie (Steven) LaRiviere, Lori (Brent) Horstman, Craig (Lori) Ness, Brian Ness, Jamie (Adam) Gavitt, Stacy (Scott) Bradley, Jason (Lindsay) Stiemke, Kristin (Brian) Lemanczyk and 17 great-grandchildren, Griffin, Olivia, Axle, Ruby Stiemke, Jasmine, Alyssa LaRiviere, Trevor, Samuel Horstman, Lauren, Dylan Ness, Natalie, Cole Gavitt, Hayden, Wyatt Bradley, Kyla , Mazie Stiemke and Alison Lemanczyk. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anna (Ed) Kusrow; two brothers, Edward (Arlene) Stiemke and Walter (Bernice) Stiemke and in-laws, Rodney (Norma) Kroncke, Harold (Sarah) Kroncke, Ervin (Gudrun) Kroncke, Carl (Myrtle) Kroncke, Florence (Ralph) Greiber and Wilbert (Shirley) Kroncke.
Funeral services will be held at ZION EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, W6906 County Road K, Arlington, at 1 PM on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, with Rev. Scott Schwertfeger and Rev. Jacob Scott co-officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, August 31, 2014 from 2 PM until 6 PM and also on Monday from Noon until the time of the service.
