Ellen June Wright

MONONA/BLACK EARTH-Ellen June Wright, age 84, died on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in St. Charles, Ill., after a lengthy period of declining health.

She was born on Aug. 4, 1929, in Watertown, the daughter of Wesley H. and Florena R. Wendt. Ellen grew up in Lake Mills and the Madison area. As a child and teen, she loved and rode horses. She was a graduate of Madison West High School and received a dental hygiene degree from Marquette University. While at Marquette, Ellen met her future husband, Robert L. Wright. They were married on Feb. 10, 1951. Ellen and Robert raised their two daughters, Leslie and Linda, in Monona. After their daughters left the nest, they moved to a farm in Black Earth, where Ellen became involved in the community. She enjoyed gardening, raising a small flock of sheep and antiquing.

The nearly 20 years in Black Earth were some of their happiest years together. After her husband's death in 1995, she relocated to Illinois. Although Ellen spent her final years in Illinois, she was always a Wisconsin girl at heart.

She is survived by her daughters, Leslie (Don) Roach of New Boston, NH and Linda (Durwin) Day of Batavia, Ill; three grandchildren, Derek Day of Des Moines, Iowa, Darcy Day of The Woodlands, Texas and Hayley Day of Batavia, Ill.; one great-grandchild, Cade; niece, Stacy Gulden; and nephews, Bradley and Steven Wendt. Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L.; and brother, David Wendt.

A Funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. A Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 401 Femrite Drive, Monona. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until time of service on Saturday.
