MIDDLETON- Duane W. Cook, age 80, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014.
He was born on March 21, 1933, in Madison to Frank and Ethel Cook.
He married Cordella “Corky” Breunig on July 17, 1954, in Middleton where they raised their family.
Duane had a tremendous love for competitive sports. He carried that passion through Madison Central High School and into adulthood playing baseball and softball until he was 50 plus years old. Duane enjoyed coaching his three sons youth baseball teams.
Later in life, he spent precious time with his grandchildren and loved attending their sports and school activities. Duane served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His employment career was mainly in the lumber and home improvement industry.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years; four children, Wayne (Colleen Hagler), Bob (Jane), Mike (Darlene), and Kristi Hunt; nine grandchildren, Chet, Colin, Janna (Tim) Allen, Jayme (Deana Ziemendorf), Cole (Jehvana), Courtney (Robert) LaSavage, Cayla, Andre and Tyler Hunt; great-grandchildren, Dacoda, Dalanie, Kelby and Braxton; brother, Don (Bernie); sisters, Lola Welke, Delila (Gary) Stolen, and Ester Horsted; brothers and sisters in-law, Ann Wipperfurth, Stella (Richard)Dresen, Stan (Maryann), Phillip (Pat), Roger Brumm, Pat (Ron) Paska, Butch, Mary (Chuck Olson) and Al (Diann); and many nieces and nephews. Duane was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Clarence and Bernice Breunig; brothers, Leon Horsted, Leroy Cook, and Marlin Cook; brothers in-law, Joe Welke and Al Wipperfurth; sister in-law, Phyllis Brumm; and niece, Beth Breunig.
Memorial services will be held at ST. BERNARD’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton at Noon on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
