Duane Lavy Armson

Duane Armson, age 89 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin passed away peacefully Monday, December 30, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in Wisconsin Dells.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 2:30 P.M. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Craig Wolfgram officiating. Visitation will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Friday from 12 noon until the time of service at 2:30 p.m. Military rites will be provided by the Harold B. Larkin American Legion Post 187 of Wisconsin Dells.

Duane was born November 12, 1924 in New Haven Township of Adams County, Wisconsin the son of Elmer and Evelyn (Learmoth) Armson and grew up and graduated from Wisconsin Dells. In January of 1943 he married Beatrice Bixby. Then he enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1943 and served overseas during World War 2 in central Europe, attained the rank of corporal and was honorably discharged in February of 1946. He returned to Wisconsin Dells and worked briefly at the city power plant until the mid 1950's and then was a self employed over the road truck driver until his retirement in 1986. Along the way he earned many safety awards for accident free driving. He stayed busy providing transportation to many other people around the area for medical appointments, grocery shopping, etc. Duane enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, trains, going on long rides and camping with his wife. His hobby of tinkering was spent on his pride and joy 1932 Ford. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts in Wisconsin Dells and partook in the National Honor Flight in 2010.

Duane is survived by a son, Jerry (Peggy) Armson of Black River Falls, Wisconsin; daughters, Darleen (Edwin) Mittelstaedt of Chatham, Illinois and Cheryl (Patrick) Coon of Big Spring, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Sean Mittelstaedt of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Matthew Mittelstaedt of Lerna, Illinois, Gretchen (Gregg) Bish of Fremont, Michigan, Lori (James) Anderson of Desert Hot Springs, California, Sara Wurtzler of Springfield, Illinois, Alan (Rhonda) Armson of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Sandy Shawback of Wisconsin Dells, Brenda (Tom) Klapoetke and Kim (Jason) Musiedlak both of Briggsville, Wisconsin and John Koenig of Black River Falls; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 1 nephew and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and an infant sister.
