CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Dr. Kim Marie Walsh, age 53, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend and colleague, died at home on April 23, 2013.

Kim was born on April 16, 1960, in Milwaukee. She attended Monona Grove High School, Dartmouth College, Duke University School of Medicine, and the University of North Carolina School of Public Health, earning her Medical Degree, Masters in Public Health, and Board Certification in Family Medicine. She fell in love with North Carolina, where she made her home with her family in rural Orange County. She served as Medical Director of Alamance and then Durham County Health Departments between 1991 and 2001. Most recently, she served as Medical Director at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Kim loved the outdoors, and she was an avid hiker, runner and swimmer. She loved to cook and share meals with family and friends. She met her husband, Dr. Daniel James Kenan, at Duke Medical School, and they were married in 1990.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Daniel James Kenan; her son, Alexander Kenan; her daughter, Anna Kenan; her parents, Dr. Eugene and Jeanette Walsh of Monona; and her sister, Sharon Walsh of Madison. She leaves behind many treasured friends and colleagues who will remember her for her dedication and her warm and generous heart.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 18, 2013, at IMMACULATE OF HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, with the Rev. Bart Timmerman, Monsignor Raymond Kertz and the Rev. James Hinnen concelebrating. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Washington, Wis., will be at a later date.
