Dr. Eugene E. Skroch

Dr. Eugene E. Skroch "Gene", age 94, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July, 12, 2014, at his home, All Saints Assisted Living. He was born on Dec. 11, 1919, in Arcadia, Wis., the son of Stanley and Proxeda Skroch. He married Kathryn Zanna on Sept. 19, 1944. Gene received his undergraduate and medical degrees from UW-Madison and completed his residency in general surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He served as a physician in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Gene was the co-founder of the East Madison Clinic (which later merged with Dean Clinic) and practiced there and at St. Mary's Hospital from 1950 until his retirement in 1980. He was a fine father, husband, friend and grandfather, but was a physician first in life. Gene was very proud of his Polish heritage and was still fluent in Polish until he died. He was an extremely accomplished woodworker making many keepsakes for his friends and family.

Gene is survived by his children, Jayne (Ron) Kuehn of Fitchburg, Dave (Jennifer) Scott of Eau Claire, Rich (Cheryl) Scott of Lewisville, Texas and Jan (Linda) Scott of Dubuque, Iowa; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Esther McDonald, Elizabeth Sobotta, Evelyn Cushing and Elynor Ficken. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, three brothers, and two great-granddaughters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 17, 2014, with Monsignor Michael Burke presiding. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, 700 S. Park St., Madison. Gene's family extends their thanks to the staff and volunteers at All Saints Assisted Living and Agrace HospiceCare for the loving care given to Gene. Online condolences may be made at
