JANESVILLE - Dr. David Huibregtse of Janesville, age 59, died on Monday, September 2, 2013, at home. He and his twin brother Bruce were born in Blair, WI on March 2, 1954, to Donald and Laurel (Karau) Huibregtse.
His early years were spent in Blair, WI and Minnetonka, MN. The family moved to Monona, WI in 1968. In addition to being an excellent student, David participated in track and played basketball and football in high school. He was an All-Conference defensive back for the 1971 Badger Conference Championship football team and a member of the conference record-setting mile relay for the 1972 Badger Conference Champion track team. He graduated in 1972 from Monona Grove High School.
David followed in his parents' footsteps and enrolled at University of Wisconsin -Madison. During college he was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, and Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Eta Sigma honorary fraternities. He was a proud U.W. graduate, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology in 1972.
In 1981 he graduated from U.W. Medical School and began a five-year orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. It was there that he met his future wife, Robyn D. Beamer. They were married on September 14, 1984.
The couple moved to Janesville in 1986, where David began his career as an orthopaedic surgeon for Riverview Clinic and later Dean St. Mary's Hospital. He was a member of the Janesville Country Club, Wisconsin Alumni Association, American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, and a former member of the Janesville Morning Rotary Club.
David was an enthusiastic fan of Badger football and the U.W. Marching Band. In his free time, he loved playing golf. He was excited to score three holes-in-one in a twelve-month period, as many of his friends will recall. He also enjoyed basketball, travel, snowboarding, biking and fishing. But his three beloved children were his pride and joy.
A gregarious and outspoken personality, David will be missed by many. Over the last 27 years he has earned the love, respect and gratitude of countless friends and patients in the Janesville area.
