MIDDLETON/ARENA-Dorothy M. Borst, age 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Greenway Manor, Spring Green. She was born on Dec. 20, 1917, in Westbrook, Minn., the daughter of John and Bertha (Greenman) Rupp. After graduating from Mellen High School in Mellen, Wisc., Dorothy married her high school sweetheart, Jasper Borst in 1938. Jasper preceded her in death in 1959. Dorothy was a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and owned and operated Dor's Laundromat in the 1950's. She then went to work at the University of Wisconsin, retiring in 1980 after 22 years of service. She volunteered her time at the Middleton Senior Center and RSVP making quilts, teddy bears and sock monkeys. Dorothy was certified in doll making and repair and loved crafting. She was a world traveler, resumed cross-country skiing at the age of 60 and took up golfing. Dorothy also enjoyed playing bridge and was an avid scrabble player.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Elisabeth Stewart, Rodney (Darlene) Borst, Nancy (Jerry) Schara and Kenneth Borst; 13 grandchildren, Brett (Shelly) Thompson, Beth (David) Turner, Barbra (Scott) Jones, Andy (Elizabeth Borst, Aimee (Jeff) Fillo, Chad (Erin) Borst, Jean (Alan) Love, Ann (Kevin) Houck, Bob Schara, David (Tina) Schara and Kyle Borst; 26 great-grandchildren, Scott, Chase and Ty Thompson, Michelle and Megan Turner, Zachary and Nicole Jones, Christopher, Claire, Bridget and Vincent and Domini Borst, Tim Tulpo, Aiyanna Rivera, Madison, Aiden and Roman Borst, Sidne Borst, Samantha (Chris) Shaw, Marilyn, Kevin Jr. and Alicia Houck, Sabrina Hannam, Aaron, Jasmine and Jordon Schara; three great-great-grandchildren, Harley and Ryker Shaw and Rhylie Hannam; three sisters, Marge Spencer, Rebecca Gersmehl and Lucille Hornbaker; brother, Dann Rupp; other relatives and many friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Carl, Ben and Glenn Rupp, Amy Callahan and Eunice Rupp; and two grandchildren, Roger and Debra Schara.
Funeral services will be held at MIDDLETON COMMUNITY CHURCH, 645 Schewe Rd. (corner of Schewe and Old Sauk Rds.), at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, with the Rev. James Iliff presiding. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to the Middleton Senior Center.
