Madison, WI/Honey Brook, PA/Dorothy Anna Walstead, age 96, of Madison, formerly Honey Brook, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 17, 2016 with family at her side.

She was born July 2, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA, to Anna W. (Norris) and Clifford Supplee Souders.

Dorothy and her husband, MSgt Howard Walstead, moved from Dover, DE to Truax Field, Madison in 1956. She graduated MATC in 1971 as an LPN, and retired from Mendota Mental Health Inst. in 1986 after 30 years. She was a loving and caring mother. She enjoyed a close relationship with her daughter, Janet. Together, they traveled the U.S. and Canada on many bus tours. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in both PA and Madison. She valued her time spent with friends playing cards, Scrabble and Phase 10. She also played the piano and organ for friends and family. Her family will always cherish the quilts and afghans that she enjoyed making. She was dearly loved, and her lively spirit will be missed.

Dorothy is survived by her six children, Janet Byerly, Jean (Nelson) Wells, Doris (Perry) Wiles, Betty (Bobby) Clouser, all of Pennsylvania, Nelson (Connie) Walstead of Madison, Lottie (Don) Miller of Iowa; nine grandchildren, Kathy, Michael, Teresa, John, Tim, Kim, Nicole, Sommer and Linnea; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Dorothy was preceded in death by her three husbands, Clair Byerly, Edward Elvin and Howard Walstead; her son, James Byerly; her brother, Peter Souders and a daughter-in-law, Dawn Walstead.

The family wishes to thank Oak Park Memory Care for caring for Dorothy the past seven years, and the nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital for their compassion during her final hours.

A Funeral Service will be held in Madison at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

A second Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2016, at ST. MARK’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH & Cemetery, 1040 Chestnut Tree Rd, Honey Brook, PA.
