MADISON- Doreen M. Thatcher, age 92, peacefully passed away at Heritage Monona on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, with her niece, Marsha and friend, Catherine by her side.
She was born in Menomonie, on June 17, 1924, the daughter to Ernest and Helen (Roen) Halverson. Doreen graduated from Menomonie High School a part of the class of 1942. She married Richard Thatcher on Dec. 26, 1945, in Menomonie. They moved to Madison in 1947.
Doreen's career included working for Montgomery Wards, American Family and CUNA mutual. She loved to travel by car and RV, especially to Mexico and spoke often of her trips to Cuba and Alaska. When not traveling by car, she loved to take boating trips with friends, and seek out adventures of any kind. She was also an avid Packers fan, animal lover and reader.
Doreen is survived by her sister-in-law, Elinor Thatcher; cousin, Jean Weber; many nieces and nephews; and friend, Catherine Tryon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; sisters, Mary Lou (James) Alseth and Betty (Mike) Michaels.
A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 2 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Oakwood Rehabilitation Center and Heritage Monona for the love and care they provided for Doreen.
