Donald Theodore Barritt, age 89, of Dodgeville, formerly of Cobb, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Crestridge Assisted Living. Don was born on August 2, 1924 in Barron, WI to Golden and Frances (Foss) Barritt. Following graduation from the Barron High School in 1942, he served in the U.S. Army in Lyon, France during WWII. He graduated from U.W. Madison with a degree in Agriculture. Don married the former Virginia Bell Smith of Madison on June 17, 1950. He worked for Cobb Canning Company his entire career, retiring as Plant Manager on December 31, 1991 after nearly 40 years of service. Family and faith were most important to Don. His greatest joy came from serving others. He was a dedicated member of the Cobb United Methodist Church where he served wherever he was needed. He was also a member of the Linden Masonic Lodge, the Cobb Lion’s Club and the Cobb American Legion Post #463. He had also served on the Cobb Fire Department, the Iowa-Grant Booster Club, as a Boy Scout Leader and was a founding member of the Blackhawk Lake Association. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting and time spent on Blackhawk Lake whether fishing or just riding on the pontoon with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Scott Barritt.
Don is survived by his wife Ginny of Dodgeville; a son, Steve (Patty) Barritt of Sauk City; two daughters, Nancy (Rick) Iglesias of Winona, MN and Kathy (Ty) Calkins of Janesville; a daughter-in-law, Mary Barritt of Janesville; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his brother, Peter Barritt of Barron, WI as well as many friends.
Masonic Services followed by funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at the Cobb United Methodist Church with Pastor Peter W. Berg officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Friends may call at the church on Thursday after 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cobb United Methodist Church, Upland Hills Hospice or the charity of your choice.
