Dolores (Dee) Louise Gill
WESTPORT/WAUNAKEE -

Our dear mother, Dolores “Dee” Louise Gill (Holmes), age 84, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. She was born in Madison on April 7, 1929.

On May 16, 1959, she married Herbert Gill, Jr., at Holy Redeemer Church in downtown Madison. Herb preceded her in death on May 8, 2005. Together Dee and Herb enjoyed spending time with friends playing cards, going to Badger home and away games, or watching any sporting events on TV. Most of all, Dee enjoyed her time with her children and grandchildren. Their annual trip together up north was one of the highlights of her year.

A longtime Madison resident, during school she worked as a cashier at Miller’s Department Store and as an operator at the telephone company. After school, she started with bookkeeping responsibilities at the Hotel Loraine. In 1960, she started at the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) where she met many of her longtime friends. After 36 years, she retired as a finance manager in 1996. In 1976, after moving to Westport, she became very involved with St. Mary of the Lake Church where she eventually became Trustee. She was known to be a fun, stylish, honest and a no non-sense lady. After retirement and up until March of this year, she was extremely active. She enjoyed her weekly bowling and golf leagues and card groups. She was very good at these activities. She participated in several senior tournaments and would do very well. She was a great card player and was very competitive in any yard or dice game. She enjoyed gambling, either it be at the casino or any tournament pool, and was usually very lucky.

She is survived by her four children, Kathy (Rick) Herbrand, of Onalaska, Chris (Bob) Bischel, of DeForest, Pat (Kelly), of Madison, and Lisa (Chad) Pierick, of DeForest; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, and Amanda Herbrand, Adam and Anna Bischel, Keaton, Presley and Kallen Gill, and Clay and Sophie Pierick. She is also survived by her sisters, Joann (Ken) Zingg of Verona, and Lois Ferguson of Arkansas; her sisters- and brother-in-law, Donna Grahn, Dorothy (Arnie) Miller, and Mary Lou Gill and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herb, sister, Donna, and brothers-in-law, Frank Ferguson, James Grahn and Robert Gill. A mass of Christian burial will be held at ST. MARY OF THE LAKE CHURCH, 5460 Mary Lake Road, Westport/Waunakee, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2013. A visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 Sherman Avenue, Madison, Sunday, October 6, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and then again at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Agrace Hospice nurses and staff, especially Kim, Mary, Angela, and Stephanie, for their exceptional care of our mom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests making donations to Agrace, St. Mary of the Lake Church, or other area charities in her memory.

Dee will be greatly missed. She had a way of always putting a smile on your face. Even during her last bout with cancer, she remained her positive, truly inspiring self and she continued her contagious laugh. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit www.ryanfuneralservice.com.
