Darrel William Nicholson, age 80, of Paoli, died peacefully on Friday July 25th at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his family.

Darrel was the first of 9 children. He was born September 10, 1933 at home in Duck Creek to Charles and Thelma Nicholson. Darrel married his wife Juliane Crowley on May 5, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church in Viroqua, WI. He was blessed with three children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Darrel was a farmer, and worked for Gehin Landscaping, Exeter Pork, and the Bruce Co. from where he finally retired at the ripe young age of 79. He was an avid outdoorsman and gardener. But most of all he loved his family, if it was hunting with his son or grandsons or singing and dancing he loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters Carmen (Greg) McDonald, New Glarus, Julie (Brian) Smith, Brooklyn; son Robin (Cindy) Nicholson, Sun Prairie; grandchildren Elaine (Jeremiah), Curtis, Sarah, Tanya, Kyle (Jessica), Derek, Christopher, Tom and Andrew; great-grandchildren Kennedy, Skyler, Reagan and Madelyn. He is further survived by his brothers Douglas, Bliss, Jerry, Loren; sisters Donna, Laura, and Paula; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Juliane on Feb. 27, 2013, his parents, brother Dale, brother in law Terrance Crowley, nephews Steven Nicholson and Jason Craig, niece Lynn Nicholson, and granddaughter Emily.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Pastor Rich Gibbs officiating.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until time of service on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville. A memorial fund has been established.
