Dan “Danny” Dwelton Peterson, age 82, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014, at Meriter Park Hospital in Madison. He was born on Feb. 5, 1932, the son of Dwelton and Ethel (Peterson) Peterson. Dan graduated from Madison East High School in 1950, as the class Vice President, where he excelled in sports. He attended UW Madison before joining the U.S. Army, serving from 1951 until 1953. He was at Yucca Flat, Nevada, during the testing of an atomic bomb. After his military service he returned to Madison Business College, graduating in 1957. Dan was a true sports enthusiast and a talented athlete, he participated in many sports, especially golf. He married Carol Jacobson in 1957. Dan loved reading and being outdoors and taking long walks with his dog. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol to Europe and exploring new places. Together, Dan and Carol have been active volunteers at the North Eastside Senior Coalition of the Aging. He was a devoted member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church since the day he was born.

Dan is survived by his wife, Carol; two brothers, Lowell (Cheryl) Peterson and Gary (Susan Schmitz) Peterson; his sister, Mary (David) Earll; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister-in-law, Gloria Peterson.

Funeral Services will be held at HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2670 Milwaukee Street, Madison, at 1 p.m., on Saturday, March 15, 2014 with The Reverend Mark Bartels presiding. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
