Clark was born January 21, 1933 to Noel and Janet (Clark) Winn in Jackson, Michigan. He spent most of his childhood in Elgin, IL before relocating to Lake Delton during his high school years. Clark graduated from Wisconsin Dells High School in 1951 and joined the Navy after graduation. He became a Dental Assistant while serving on the USS Bennington. Clark was aboard the Bennington when an explosion occurred, killing 103 men and injuring 201. Clark played a significant role in providing assistance to those who were either injured or killed that day.

In 1957, Clark and his partners purchased an Upper Dells tour boat business called Soma Boat Line. In 1958, they expanded their business to include boat tours on the Lower Dells and later added an amphibious duck line called Aquaducks which toured Mirror Lake. Over the years, their company purchased many properties in the Dells area and used them to construct ticket booths, including the old Farmers & Merchant Bank (Nigs Bar). Clark retired from the boat business in the mid 1980’s.

On October 4, 1959, Clark married the love of his life, Beatrice “Beati” Gussel. They spent 45 years together, raising four children and living a life full of adventures, including spending summers at their camper on Birch Lake. During his life, Clark enjoyed many days hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, skiing, woodworking and traveling with Beati.

Clark was well liked by those who met him. Many described him as a true gentleman who exhibited integrity, hard work and empathy for others. Clark also loved to tease and prank and he enjoyed a good time. Many former boat line employees still fondly recall the employee parties held by the boat line each Labor Day. Clark was a wonderful father who was always willing to give of himself. Clark was a member of the Dells Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and also a member of the American Legion Post #187of Wisconsin Dells.

Clark is survived by his children, William Parchem of Lake Delton, Patricia (John) Johnson of Baraboo, WI, Deborah (Kurt) Konietzki of Neenah, WI and Matthew Winn of Wisconsin Dells; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers-in law, Bernard “Bud” Gussel and Tom Gussel; sisters-in-law, Barbara Gussel and Lisa Gussel as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beati; brother, James Winn; brothers-in-law, Robert Gussel and Harvey “Pete” Christensen; sisters-in law, Mary Ann Winn, Roseanne Christensen, and Joyce Gussel.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations made to The Salvation Army. Clark always held The Salvation Army in high regards, due to his experience with the organization while serving in the Navy.

Clark’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at King’s Veteran’s Home. He was fond of his caregivers on 3rd Floor, MacArthur Hall. We appreciate the care and respect they gave Clark, in the past three years.
