MADISON -Carol Jean Shannon (née Eveland) passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at her home in Madison after a long illness.
Carol was born on March 22, 1934, to Bradford and Eva (Rongve) Eveland in Barneveld, Wisconsin. She graduated from Barneveld High School in 1952. On Oct. 22, 1954, she married the love of her life, Ralph Shannon. Together they had two children, Susan René and Warren Alex.
Throughout her adult life Carol worked at several banks in Madison. From 1977 through 1982 she lived in Africa and Greece, where Ralph worked for the Voice of America. There, Carol took up golf and learned to play bridge. She enjoyed reading, walking, knitting, and watching sports (above all Badger basketball) and Lawrence Welk. She volunteered for the Monona Lutheran Church, where she was a member for over 50 years, and at the Bethesda Thrift Shop on Cottage Grove Rd.
Carol is survived by her daughter Susan (Dan) Clement of Madison and Warren (Kasia) of Warsaw, Poland; four grandchildren, Timothy (Kara) Clement, Harrison (Linda) Buchholz, Benjamin Buchholz and Samuel Shannon; one great-grandson, Henry Clement; three brothers, Steve (Marilyn) of Ridgeway, James (Barb) of Cuba City, and Dean (Donna) of Edgerton; one sister, Norita Williams of Barneveld; sisters-in-law, Sharon Banta of Salt Lake City, Utah and Connie Eveland of Evansville, Wisconsin; and by many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Elden and Keith; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen and Arlyn Eveland; and brother-in-law, Dan Williams.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Noon with Father Timothy Jones from Agrace HospiceCare officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. A fellowship luncheon will be held at 1 p.m. at Carol’s home in Madison.

Carol’s ashes will be buried at White Cemetery in Barneveld, Wisconsin. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
