Carla Jean (Morton) Schill

Carla Jean (Morton) Schill, age 76, of Dodgeville died on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Carla was born in Dodgeville on February 12, 1938 to Dr. Homer H. and Gertrude (Pratt) Morton. Carla graduated from Dodgeville High School and went to Luther College in Decorah, IA for one year. She then married her high school sweetheart, Gary Schill from Dodgeville on September 1, 1957 and they moved to Madison, WI, where she attended Madison Business College. They returned to Dodgeville in 1959, where they raised their family in the same home in which Carla grew up. Carla wore many hats in her life, business owner, travel agent, mother and friend. One of her primary goals in life was to bring a smile to the face of everyone she encountered. She dearly loved her family and her community and they loved her back. She owned and operated Carla's Cupboard and also worked for Ruthie Disch and Dodgeville Travel Agency and worked as a Wedding Planner. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Choir; Upland Hills Hospital Auxiliary; Health Planning Council; Luther League Leaders and initiated numerous efforts to bring a pool to Dodgeville. Carla was a fantastic "Dance Mom" before it was bad thing, and attended every event her children and their friends performed in. She created a home atmosphere that was welcoming to all the friends of her children, which led to being lovingly called Carla-Mom by many of her children's friends. Everyone was welcomed into Carla's family, particularly those who displayed a warped and distorted sense of humor. She always looked at the world through rose-colored glasses.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eleanor Drury and Edith Stebnitz and a brother, Donald Morton.

Carla is survived by her husband, Gary of Dodgeville; four children, Eric Schill of Dodgeville; Heidi Schill Clemmens of Macomb, IL; Peter (Melissa) Schill of Hastings, MN and Kristin Schill of Madison; five grandchildren, Matthew Clemmens; Benjamin Clemmens; Jonah Schill; Samuel Schill and Rebecca Schill; a sister-in-law, Donna Glanville of Northport, WA as well as nieces, nephews and many friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 19, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Church in Dodgeville with Pastor Kenneth L. Schaub officiating. Friends may call at Grace Lutheran Church from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M Saturday and on Sunday after 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Milestone Ministries or the Campership Program at Grace Lutheran Church or Upland Hills Hospice.
