Carl W. Pruess, 84, passed away suddenly on Monday, May 6th, 2013, at UW Hospital surrounded by loved ones.
He was born September 20th, 1928, in Milwaukee, WI to John and Mabel (Frentz) Pruess.
Carl served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1946-1948. Following military service, he attended UW-Milwaukee where he met Joanna Washburn, with whom he was united in marriage in 1952. Carl briefly taught art to handicapped students in Kenosha and went on to work at LM Berry Milwaukee in yellow pages sales. The family then moved to Madison, where Carl worked for Marshall Erdman & Associates and ultimately opened a Closets by Techline franchise before retiring.
Carl appreciated beautiful cars, jazz, the arts, and architecture. His aesthetic was evident in his career, lifestyle, and unique homes. He loved to entertain and traveled the world extensively.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by an infant brother, Gordon, brother, Paul, brother in law, Rod Keenan, and daughter in law, Ellen Pruess.
He is survived by daughters, Carlyn (Reggie), Jill and Dania, and son, Jon. He also leaves behind three grandsons, Justin, Temoc, and Ian, as well as a sister, Joan Keenan, and some additional Milwaukee area relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11th, 2013, at West Side Club, 437 S, Junction Rd, Madison, with the Reverend Larry Collins officiating.
