Madison/Arlene Naomi Coates, age 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.
She was born on November 9, 1924, the daughter of Sydney and Laura (Walters) Hotchkiss. She was united in marriage to Frederick D. “Fred” Coates on May 25, 1946 in Portland, Oregon. She worked for Oscar Mayer and retired after 28 years of service.
Arlene and Fred, “Mama and Papa” loved their years staying at their home on Isla Mujeres, Mexico. She was also proud to introduce the island to many family members and other people that became close friends. Arlene was a true nature lover and the wild animals will miss all of her treats.
She is survived by her son, James “Jim” (Lori) Coates; grandchildren: Tana, Kristin, Mark (Jessica) and Carol Coates; great-grandchildren, Travis, Jacob, Nikki, Emily, Jeffery, Kallia, Wesley, Joseph, Lincoln and Phoenix; 5 great-great-grandchildren and one due in February; and many dear friends.
She is reunited in heaven with her beloved husband of 62 years, Fred; her son, Robert “Bob” Coates, her grandson, Todd Coates as well as her parents and brother, Louis Hotchkiss.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Avenue.
The family is forever grateful to Mark, Jessica, Nikki and the boys for the loving care that she received in their home the past two years. Thank you also to the girls who became like family while caring for Arlene and the wonderful staff at Agrace HospiceCare.
