Anne Marie (Ghering) Jones passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, after a courageous struggle with pancreatic cancer.
She was 53 years old. Anne was born on Nov. 12, 1960, in Madison, the daughter of Ronald and Mary (Mockrud) Ghering. She attended school in Monona and Detroit, Mich. She received her B.S. from U.W. Madison in 2004, the same year she was nominated for Outstanding Returning Adult Student. Anne was employed by the Mental Health Center of Dane County for 19 years. Her joyful, caring spirit was appreciated by clients and co-workers alike. Animals of all varieties found a true friend in Anne from childhood on. Many dogs, cats, fish and a special African Grey parrot named Bird were doted on by Anne. There wasn’t a petting zoo that she could pass up.
Anne is survived by her father, Ron; step-mother, Harriet; mother, Mary Pierce; step-father, Dale; a step-brother, Joe Pierce; a step-sister, Wendi Weger; and many wonderful uncles, aunts, cousins and dear friends. Anne cherished her time spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Melvin and Barbara Ghering, and Stanley and Nora Mockrud; and a sister Amy Ghering.
A private service will be held and a memorial gathering in the spring will be announced.
The family is especially thankful for the compassionate care given by the doctors and staff at the U.W. Carbone Cancer Center and U.W. Hospitals and Clinics. Her final journey was made immeasurably easier by their efforts. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
