Anne Bridget Inman, age 92, passed away peacefully at Sylvan Crossings of Chapel Valley on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. Anne was born on August 23, 1921 in Hollandale, WI to James and Mary Dougherty. She delighted in telling stories about life on the farm and living in the small town Hollandale/Ridgeway area. Anne graduated from UW Platteville State Teacher’s College and went on to teach at one room grade schools - Blue Grass Valley and Meadow Grove - for 5 years. She was married in 1942 to Leo “Bun” W. Collins. They moved to Madison in 1952, by then with 3 children; Leo died in 1961. Anne remarried in 1965 to Richard L. Inman; living happily together until his death in 1997. When she first moved to Madison she was employed by Montgomery Ward from 1952 to 1960. In 1960 she was employed by H.S. Manchester Inc., retiring in 1981 as their personnel director. Growing up Anne enjoyed big band music and dancing. She and Richard were active UW Badger sport fans, going to many home and away football games together. Anne loved to read and spend as much time in the kitchen as possible. In recent years she looked forward to visits from her great-grandchildren. Her granddaughters described her as “a funny, sweet lady who loved her family and her family loved her,” and was “spunky ‘til the end.”
Anne is survived by her children, James (Ruth) Collins and Jerald (Carol Sparre); grandchildren, Kelly, Jenna, Lydia, Patrick, Shannon, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Abbey, Jack, Clara, Maddie, Preston, Mara, and Macy Rose; sister, Margaret Nolan; sisters-in-law, Claire Dougherty, Connie Dougherty, and Delores Purcell; daughters-in-law, Joyce Collins and Dawn Collins.
