MADISON - Alexis Theresa Olson passed away peacefully Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Meriter Hospital in Madison.
She was born on August 8, 1950, in Wausau and is preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Helen (Osipowicz) Deruchowski.
She is survived by her husband James R. of Madison, her daughter Angela (John) Rackowski of Milwaukee, and her son James J. (Caroline) of Columbia, MD.
After graduating from Madison East High School in 1968, Alexis worked as a legal secretary for LaFollette & Sinykin and became a close colleague to senator Russ Feingold.
In the mid-1980s, Alexis joined Quarles & Brady as a secretary to former governor Tony Earl. In the late-1990s, Alexis became a paralegal for the Wisconsin Supreme Court; she recently retired from the legal profession.
As a retiree, Alexis devoted many volunteer hours at Meriter Hospital and area art events. Alexis's altruistic nature was evident in her unwavering devotion to her parents, husband, children, and friends.
Alexis was known for her expertise in gardening and concocting outstanding desserts. She enjoyed collecting movies, vacationing to Hawaii, and antiquing with friends. She and her family worked closely with the Shorewood Cocker Spaniel Rescue Group; they rescued three faithful dogs throughout the years: Thumper, Hope, and Buffy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at St. Peter Catholic Church, 5001 N. Sherman Ave., with Msgr. Charles Schluter officiating.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Shorewood Cocker Rescue Group can be made in Alexis's name.
