Alden Potter

Alden James (Red) Potter passed away peacefully on November 24th surrounded by his family after a brief illness. 

He was born in Baraboo WI on March 12th 1933, the eldest of Boyd and Eileen Potter's four children. He spent most of his early years on their family century farm. There Jim graduated from Baraboo High School where he played football, basketball, and track. He was very proud of the fact that as a young man he jumped off of a bridge on the Baraboo River to save a child from drowning.

In November of 1951 he joined the United States Air Force and serviced for four years during the Korean War. While he was stationed at the Mountain Home Air Force in Idaho, he married Edith Marie Kreger on June 12th, 1956. Later that year they moved to Janesville and Jim started working for General Motors. He was a proud member of the UAW and retired in 1986. 

Red loved sports and encouraged all of his children to participate in high school athletics. He enjoyed playing on softball teams in Janesville. He enjoyed a variety of activities including hunting, fishing, playing cards, and gambling. He loved horses and ran his brothers EZ Roll Riding Stables in Reedsburg, WI for 20 years. Jim loved making and selling maple syrup in the spring. As a morning ritual he would have coffee with his friends at the Wander Inn. Jim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years. 

He is survived by his children; Jim Potter, Janesville; Kellie Kaderly (Ron), Smithville MO; Terrie Zimmerman (Jeffery), Janesville; Jan Potter (Gloria), Janesville; Jay Potter (JD), Riverside MO; Laura Broten, Lake Geneva; and Sherrie Cook, Beloit.

Jim is survived by his siblings; Boyd (Bud) Potter, Baraboo WI; Jackie Ward, Hot Springs Arkansas; and Jeanne Sabino, Milwaukee WI. 
He is also survived by his nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother Boyd and Eileen Potter and his eldest daughter, Jean Bisiorek.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 noon, on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at the Italian House restaurant, 1603 E. Racine Street, Janesville.
