Agnes M. (Jentz) Gates Berget, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014, in Platteville. She was born on January 21, 1920, in Lancaster, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Martens) Jentz. She married John Gates in 1941. They had four children and shared 20 years together until John’s death in 1961. Agnes married Virgil Berget on July 30, 1972, in Madison. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years. Agnes was a country school teacher at Burr Oak in Belmont. She also worked at the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1982. Agnes liked fishing and camping; bowling and traveling. She was a Badger Hockey fan. Agnes enjoyed her grandchildren and loved her family. She was a very kind, determined woman who never said a bad thing about anyone.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Charles) Dobson and Jerry (Jayne) Gates; daughter-in-law, Karen Gates; step-daughters, Rosemary Meier and Paula Bird; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; parents; sons, Dale and Ronald Gates; stepdaughter, Cheryl Markowskie; brothers, Wilson, Walter and Clarence Jentz; sisters, Stella Semrau and Mabel Livingston; and grandson-in-law, Wayne Schilling.

Services will be held at Noon, on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Hospice.
