William(Bill) A.Brown of Richland Center, WI died on November 6, 2012. Bill had recently resided at Harvest Guest Home and Pine Valley Health Center the past year. He died of a sudden infection that overcame him this past weekend.
Bill was born in Cameron, MO on July 28, 1921 to Charles and Ota (Clark) Brown. After high school, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp at the start of World War II. He served in a number of the island campaigns in the South Pacific. Near the end of the war Bill met Joann Rae when they were both serving at Marine Corp Air Station, Cherry Point, NC. They married in August 1946. They started their married life in Missouri where Bill started what was to be a life long career in retail sales. His long time mentor, James Cash Penney had promised him a management position when he returned from the war. He started managing a JC Penney store in Cameron and then moved onto Albia, IA. From there he moved the family to Washington and Fairfield, IA, where he became involved with the Seifert’s women’s clothing company.
In 1962 Bill moved the family to Richland Center, WI where he started his own women’s clothing store, Brown’s Smart Fashions. This was his proudest accomplishment; to be able to move his family to this beautiful community he had found in Southwestern Wisconsin. The next 50 years of his life he worked endlessly to promote Richland County and Richland Center. He was always deeply grateful to the entire community for the support they gave his family and his business.
Being an Eagle Scout himself, he worked with the Boy Scouts when his son was younger, and then became part of the VFW, American Legion, Trinity Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, and many other organizations throughout the county.
Bill loved life and always shared his love of life. He was always there with a hug and a smile. Bill is survived by
his son C. Dudley Brown (Barbara) Richland Center, WI
granddaughter Mercedes Brown, Madison WI
Josh Secaur (Kristyn) West Bend, WI,
Andre Secaur, Lacrosse, WI,
Nick Secaur, Richland Center, WI,
Jason Secaur (Holly) Urbandale, IA.
He is further survived by his extended family, Wally Wassimi (Wronga), of Tucson, AZ, and their children, Marzia Wassimi Woodside, East Lansing, MI, Atal Wassimi and Alec Wassimi, Tucson, AZ. David Anderson of Dodgeville, WI was also considered a son of the family.
He was preceded in death by his two older sisters, Virginia Wills and Hazel Stice, and by his loving wife of 64 years, Joann Rae Brown and daughter Melinda Ann Secaur.
Visitation for Bill will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Pratt Memorial Chapel, Richland Center. Friends may call from 1-4 pm. The Pratt Funeral Service is assisting the family with their arrangements.
