MONONA-Viola V. Onsgard, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 25, 1915, in Lewiston, WI., the daughter of Frank and Lena(Wolff) Krier. Vi was predeceased by her first husband, Ingwald Johnson in 1946. Then on April 7, 1948, she married Howard E. Onsgard in Dubuque, IA and they later had a daughter, Cheryl. They were able to celebrate their 60th anniversary before Howard passed away in May, 2008. Viola worked for Oscar Meyer for 38 years where all of her co-workers called her “Johnny”. Since her family always came first, Vi retired in 1978 to help raise her grandchildren and eventually, great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid.

Vi is survived by her daughter, Cheryl of Beloit; grandchildren, Ericka (David) Stellflue of Marshall, Jeffrey (Ashley) Kline of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Sapphire, Jacob, Skyler and Eliot; sister, Leona Phernetton of Minn; along with numerous other relatives and friends. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three brothers, a sister, half-brother, and half-sister.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 2:00pm at OUR SAVIOR’S EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1201 Gunderson_Funeral Droster Road, Madison, with Rev. Brad Homan presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from noon until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church or Agrace HospiceCare.

A very special thank you to Ron Maple of Beloit who lovingly took Viola into his home in May, 2011, so he could help Cheryl care for her along with assistance from Agrace HospiceCare’s home visits. Viola will be greatly missed by all of us.
