Thomas Elliott Schmidt, 74 of rural New Lisbon passed away at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Madison on Thursday, October 11, 2012 with his family at his side. Tom was born in Dubuque, Iowa on October 27, 1937 the son of Julius Gustav and Blanche Alice (Elliott) Schmidt. Tom was a graduate of Dubuque Senior High and the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958. Tom was united in marriage to Kari Lee Koppang on September 1, 1979. Tom was President of the Bank of Mauston from 1972-1991 and Vice Chairman of the Board from 1972 until present. Tom took an active role in many different civic organizations, as well as Wisconsin banking groups. Tom enjoyed his banking career, golfing, mountain biking, skiing in Colorado, playing cards, and spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren and many wonderful friends.

He is survived by his wife Kari, his children Scott (Hanna) Schmidt, Sue (Joe) Luksich, Steve Schmidt, Molly (Jeff) Scully, Matthew (Kim) Walsh, Justin (Kim) Walsh, his grandchildren Heather and Brittany Schmidt, Michael, Gabrielle, and Rachel Luksich, Mya, Madalyn and Carter Scully, Kyle Johnson, Maizy and Haley Walsh, Jasper and Dylan Walsh, his great grandchildren Kaden Schmidt, Malachi Pagel, his sisters Dorothy (Raymond) Spielmann, Yvonne Ferree, brother-in-law Victor (Mimi) Koppang, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11: 00 a.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Mauston where friends may call on Monday, October 15th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be at the Plymouth Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mile Bluff Medical Center Foundation or the Mauston Community Sharing Pantry.
