Sybil Jo Winneshiek, age 72 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin with Reverend John Davey officiating. Burial will be at the Trempealeau Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at 11:30 A.M.
Sybil was born October 12, 1940 in Tomah, Wisconsin the daughter of George and Mary (Littlebear) Sine. She was baptized along with her siblings Riley and Cecilia by Adam Littlebear Sr. in Trempealeau, Wisconsin, on December 25th, 1943. Later in life she became a member of the Indian Baptist Church of Wisconsin Dells, where she taught Sunday School. Sybil was married to Edward Melvin Winneshiek on Nov 3rd, 1969, from this marriage were born two daughters, Leah Kim and Erin Mareka.
Sybil was a hard worker throughout her life and was fondly remembered while at The Winnebago Indian Museum with her sister Annie; Stand Rock Indian Ceremonial with her daughter Erin in Concessions; and many years with the Neenkchungra Headstart Program where she enjoyed teaching the children and always had humorous and endearing things to share about her day and also was a teacher for her granddaughter Spring during that time. Her final employments was at the Ho-Chunk Casino in the Snack Bar, and later in Auditing where she made many friends and liked to share in happenings of the day. Sybil had a fun quick-witted humorous nature. The things she enjoyed were beadwork, which she did impeccably. Her other enjoyments were taking rides in the country, reading, conversation, cooking meals, food, especially ice cream, her favorite DQ Dilly Bars. She enjoyed the simple pleasure in life. Sybil was good with people. She was the glue that kept her family together by special occasions, holidays and achievements. She persevered through lifes challenges with great faith, grace and courage right up to the end.
She is survived by her daughters, Leah and Erin Winneshiek; brothers, Riley (Mae) Sine and William (Michelle) Gartner; sisters, Cecilia Sine, Roberta (Allan) Chrisjohn, Ollie (Kip) Heth, Elaine Sine, Diane Tallmadge and one grandchild, Spring Winneshiek, as well as nephews and nieces and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Richard.
