VERONA- Shirley A. Bowers, age 73, passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday, October 1, 2012, surrounded by family at Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. She was born at home in Cassville on March 6, 1939, the daughter of Arnold and Marie (Esser) Junk. She married Ronald Bowers on August 30, 1958, in Cassville, while Ron was on a leave between Virginia and Korea during his service in the Army. Shirley was a wife, mother and homemaker. When her children went off to school, she worked for the Verona schools and later at Four Winds as a nursing assistant. She was an active member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, where she participated in the Council of Catholic Women, preparing funeral lunches and Sunday morning breakfast, the Craft Ladies, the Church Bazaar, assisted with CCD and was a new parishioner Welcomer. Shirley’s primary interest was spending time with family and making holidays special for them. She enjoyed cooking (especially desserts), camping, traveling and taking car trips, especially to northern Wisconsin, playing cards, socializing, casinoing, being active and just enjoying life.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Ronald; her children, Julie (Bill) Carlson, Joan Howery and Jim (Fiance, Kim) Bowers; her grandchildren, Kimberly, Zachary and Cody Carlson, Ben and Alex Howery, and Riley and Erin Bowers; her siblings, Loren (Betty) Junk, Myrna (Harold) Clark, Arnie Junk, Donna (Skip) Raisbeck, and Wayne (Arlene) Junk; a sister-in-law, Pat (Art) Benisch; a brother-in-law, Bill Heun; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Cleo and Clara; a son, Jeffrey; four stillborn babies; a brother, Gerald and his wife, Sis; sister-in-laws, Pat Junk and Eileen Heun; nephews, John Heun, and David Junk; a niece, Brenda Clark; and a special family friend, Dee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012, at ST. ANDREW CATHOLIC CHURCH, 301 N. Main Street, Verona, with Fr. William Vernon presiding. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, VERONA CHAPEL, 220 Enterprise Drive, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service., and also from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Friday.
