Sherrie Wisdom Garrett, age 71, passed away on November 22, 2016, after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was born on November 15, 1945 to Robert and Kathryn Wisdom. After graduating from high school in Greeley, Colorado in 1963, her family relocated to Iowa, where she met and married William Garrett in 1965. After they married, Sherrie and William moved to Madison, Wisconsin to raise their family. Sherrie was an active volunteer in the PTO and at the local library. She loved the outdoors. Camping, hiking, birding, cross country skiing, and sailing were some of the activities she loved the most. She also loved her dogs. Sherrie and Bill raised many English Springer Spaniels, including one litter of thirteen puppies, and adopted a few stray and rescue dogs, including Susie, who they found injured by the side of the road on one of their many camping adventures.

Sherrie was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. She traveled often to Virginia to care for and spend time with her grandsons. Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, William, her son, Billy, of Madison, and her daughter, Ellen, of Woodbridge, VA, son-in-law, Anthony Bitonti, and grandsons Louis and Ethan Bitonti. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Aidan Bitonti.

Sherrie survived her first bout with leukemia in 1999 under the care of Tom McFarland, whom she credited with saving her life. The family would like to thank the staff at Meriter Hospital for their kind and compassionate care during Sherrie’s recent hospitalization. In lieu of flowers you may consider a donation to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 26, from 3-5pm at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME at 6924 Lake Road in DeForest.
