MADISON-Ruth Marie LaSchum, age 95, of Madison, passed away on December 1, 2012, at Oakwood Village East after a brief illness. She was born on Aug. 2, 1917, at Cedar Rapids, Neb., to Reverend Henry C. and Lydia Neemann. She received a degree from Milwaukee State Teachers College in 1939. In 1940, she married Edward August LaSchum at Hope Church in Cottage Grove with her father officiating. Ruth taught kindergarten and primary grades in Wisconsin early in her career and substitute taught in Madison after her children had grown until her retirement. Her family had strong ties to Hope Lutheran Church with her father as minister there for 35 years.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Elvira Johnson, of Vacaville, Calif.; four children, Gary (Kathy) of Madison, Wendy of Oregon, Gregory of Bayfield, and Paul of Beaver Dam; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one grand-nephew.

Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Road AB, McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, with the Rev. Chris Lee-Thompson presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Memorials may be made to Oakwood East.
