JANESVILLE--- Ruth A. Cherry, age 78, of Janesville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at her home. She was born in Hazel Green on Aug. 20, 1933, the daughter of Clarence and Mabel (Carter) Gray. Ruth graduated from Benton High School in 1951 and from UW Platteville in 1955 with a BA in Education. She married Donald L. Cherry on Sept. 5, 1953, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. She was a teacher for the Janesville school district for 35 years before retiring in 1990. Ruth was a member of Cargill United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star #69, WREA and JEA and was a volunteer for Mercy Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Don; 2 children, Kimberly (Francis) Prusansky and Brian Cherry both of Janesville; 5 grandchildren: Jessica (Casey) Carlson, Joshua Cherry, Cory Gwin, Jonathan (Jen) Prusansky, and Elizabeth (Jake) Godfrey; 7 great grandchildren: Will, Jake, Joely, Jaxson, Caleb, Carter, and Frankie; 3 sisters: Mildred Floyd of Maquoketa, IA, Gwendolyn Gill of Racine, and Lynne (Ray) Olson of Janesville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant child, Rebecca; and a sister, Gretchen Welsh.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at CARGILL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with Rev. Forrest Wells officiating. Entombment will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, Janesville. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or the Rock County Cancer Coalition.
