MADISON-Ruby “Irene” Kiefer, age 82, of Madison, entered eternal life to be with her husband on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012. She was born on April 4, 1930, in Darlington, the daughter of William and Ruby King. She married Gerald Kiefer on Aug. 28, 1954, in Dodgeville. Irene graduated from Barneveld Union Free High School in 1948. She worked in Asset Planning for 25 years at Wisconsin Power and Light. Irene’s greatest joy in her life was raising her children. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts. Irene devoted a great deal of time, talent, and energy to better the quality of life for her daughter, Kathy, as she dealt with cerebral palsy; she made clothing, tools, and gadgets to make things easier for her.
Irene is survived by her son, Karl (Peggy); daughter, Kathleen Kiefer; grandchildren, Alex and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; sister, Nellie Mae Litchauer; and brother, Albert John King.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, with Father Kent Schmitt presiding. Rosary service will be held at the church at 3 p.m., with a visitation to follow until the time of Mass on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Dane County or Dane County Humane Society.
