Rosemary Gassman, 95, of Platteville, died on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services, Platteville.

Rosemary was born on March 29, 1921 at the home farm in Paris Township, Grant County. She was the third child of John and Eleanora (Conter) Flogel. She was united in marriage to Sylvester Gassman on January 31, 1940 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1982. Sylvester and Rosemary farmed in Belmont Township for many years. Rosemary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was very active in the CCW. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Rosemary enjoyed ceramics, bowling, and pitching horse shoes, as well as, tending to her garden, flowers, and lawn. To Rosemary, faith and family were the most important part of her life.

Rosemary is survived by seven children, Ken (Jane) Gassman of Platteville; Arlene (John) Roling-Casel of Asbury, IA; Jim (Joanie) Gassman of Platteville; Sylvester “Sye” (Sandy) Gassman of Pecatonica, IL; Zelda “Zee” (Jim) Wood of Purcell, MO; John (Lois) Gassman of Prairie du Sac, WI; and Mary (Jim) Bredeson of Boscobel; daughter-in-law, Sara (Jerome) Randall of Platteville; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Luella Vosberg of Platteville; Ruth (Rick Owen) Roling of DeWitt, IA; brothers, Jack Flogel of Platteville; Roy Flogel of Madison; Bob (Lorraine) Flogel of Belmont; and Henry (Delores) Flogel of Mazomanie; sister-in-law, Grace Flogel of Platteville; as well as, many, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester; son, Wayne; grandchildren, David Wood and Nathan Gassman; brother, Frances Flogel; and three sisters, Olive Wiederholt, Charlotte Miller, and Celeste Wissing.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. White, the staff at Park Place, and the staff at Manor Care for all of their care and concern.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. Sunday October 16, 2016 at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish rosary at 1:45 p.m.

Friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Monday, at the church. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family. Memorials may be made to the Rosemary Gassman Memorial Fund.
