Robert Lowell Belle, age 87, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 20, 2012. He was born on December 7, 1924 in Pasco, Washington to his parents Ide Carl and Lela Myrtle (Burwell) Bell. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as a pharmacist’s mate in the Pacific theater. He served a second term from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict as a Hospital Corpsman. Bob earned a Bachelors degree from Lawrence University, a Master’s degree from UW-Milwaukee, and a Ph.D. in Education Administration from UW-Madison. On September 10, 1949 he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Harkins in Appleton, WI. Bob worked in education for many years as a teacher, principal, curriculum coordinator, superintendent and university administrator and was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Professional Association of Education. He was very active in the Belleville community where he was a charter member of the Belleville Kiwanis Club (three term President), the Belleville Historical Society and the Belleville Area Cultural Foundation. He also served Belleville as the President of the Community Club, Municipal Judge and President of the Village Board (three terms). Bob enjoyed traveling including trips throughout the country and to Europe, Africa, China, and India. He participated in amateur summer theatre in Appleton, WI and was a Boy Scout troop leader in Ripon, WI.
Bob is survived by his wife Barbara of Belleville, WI, children Jonathan Robert (Elissa) Goldberg Belle and Christine Ann (Kurt Neumann) Belle, grandchildren Staci and Keren GoldbergBelle, Robert K. Belle, Matthew, Kristopher, and Luke Neumann. He is further survived by a sister Evangeline Bell, sisters-in-law Marjorie Kiewit and Jean Harkins and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his Aunt, Jean Burwell, a brother William Bell, and a sister Lois Bell-Denton.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI.
