Richard G. Olson, age 47, of Westby and formerly of Viroqua, Wis. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013 at Vernon Memorial Hospital.
Richard was born October 13, 1965 to Stanley Charles and Patricia Anne (Gander) Olson. He graduated from Westby High School in 1984 and helped his grandfather with the family farm. Following sale of the farm he worked for ORC in La Crosse and VARC in Viroqua until his health prevented him from working.
Richard spent many hours reading westerns and history books. Some of his special interests were airplanes and the civil war- and he could recite many facts without hesitation. Richard also enjoyed collecting miniature John Deere tractors and spending time with his brother Russell.
He is survived by his mother, Pat of Viroqua; sister, Kari L. (Paul) Johnson; brother, Russell S. Olson; his niece, Kelsey and nephews, Andy and Lucas Johnson; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his father, Stanley; and grandparents, Charles and Mary Olson and Paul and Dorothy Gander.
Thank you to the staff of Norseland Nursing Home for the special care Richard received there over the past year and a half. Because of their efforts Richard’s quality of life was greatly improved until he succumbed to his illness.
