Madison – Paul George Oren, age 66, of Madison passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 after complications of heart surgery, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on October 7, 1945 in Madison the son of Norman and Janet (Halverson) Oren. Paul graduated from Madison East High School in 1963. After high school he attended MATC – Madison and studied commercial art. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Mulhern on June 27, 1970 at St. Peter Catholic Church, Madison. He was employed at Oscar Mayer for 35 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement he was a sporting goods manager for 10 years at Dorn Sporting Goods-Northgate, fueling his passion and knowledge for hunting and fishing. Paul also enjoyed cooking, gardening, bowling, traveling and especially spending time with his dog, Lucy, his beloved grandchildren, family and friends. He was awarded many bowling achievements and was also the 2004 World Musky Champion in Manitowish Waters.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Kay; his children: Theresa (Jeff) Christianson, Beth (Adam) Zirbel and Craig (Callie) Oren; 7 grandchildren and one due in October: Isaiah, Iliana, Roman, Ruby, and Peter Christianson, Lincoln and Baby Zirbel, Cylas Oren; sisters, Jaetta Elliott and Darlene (Buzz) Stluka; in-laws, Bill and Gladys Mulhern, the Mulhern sisters and brothers-in-law; also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Peter Oren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at the Ryan Funeral Home, Windsor/DeForest Chapel, 6924 Lake Road. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. A celebration of Paul’s life will continue at Goodland Park-Lake Waubesa, 2862 Waubesa Ave., Madison, WI 53711 following the services at the funeral home.
