Patricia Rose Kanable
OREGON -Patricia Rose Kanable, age 63, of Oregon , passed away peacefully on, Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family after a seven year valiant fight against cancer. Pat was born in Richland Center on Aug. 8, 1949, the daughter of John and Rita (Gassen) Weitzel. She was raised on the family farm and although the work was hard, this is where she learned her work ethic and her love for animals. There were many times in the summer she would take us out for a drive in the country with the windows down just so she could smell the farm and cows. She was raised in Richland Center and graduated from Richland Center High School in 1967. After graduation she moved to Madison at the age of 17 to start her life in the “big city”. She worked odd jobs until beginning as a Seamstress and Furrier at Savidusky’s where she would work for the next 24 years. She met and married the love of her life, Don Kanable at a dance and they were married just six months later on Dec. 14, 1968. Together their marriage produced two daughters who were the light of her life. After her work with Savidusky’s she spent several years with State Farm Insurance before landing a temp job with the State of Wisconsin. This temp job would lead her to a full time permanent position with the Dept. of Financial Institutions where she retired from in 2011. She was an avid gardener, animal lover and prided herself on her girls and her three grandchildren. There was never a day that went by that she didn’t tell us she loved us and it will be something we will carry in our hearts forever.
She is survived by her daughters, Nichole (Ben) VanLanen and Sarah (Tay Smith); grandchildren, Hayden, Serenity and Rowan; her mother, Rita Weitzel; her sisters, Debbie (Dennis) Sumwalt, Marge (Andy) Tackett-Freeman, Mary Crook, Terri Weitzel; and brothers, Ed (Angela) Weitzel and Mark (Laura) Weitzel. She is further survived by her former spouse, Don (Teresa) Kanable; her special in-laws, Beth (Bob) Garvoille, for whom helped make it possible for mom to remain in her home; as well as her dear friends, Colleen Burke and Georgia Taylor; her dog, Yoda, many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, Holy Mother Consolation Church and many close neighbors who have helped her out the past several years, especially Ed and Becky O’Brien. She was preceded in death by her father, John; brother, John; her beloved dog, Neeko, who faithfully stayed by her side throughout her treatments and whom mom believed was one of the angels watching over her.
Funeral services will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N. Main Street, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Agrace HospiceCare South Team especially Kristin, her nurse, Melissa, her CNA, and Ann, her Social Worker, all of whom she gave a run for their money most days; as well as Chaplain Timothy, whom mom had a special bond and connection with and whom she looked forward to their meetings and prayers; Crisis Nurse, Pat “Pinkie” who helped mom be comfortable and transition into eternal life; as well as Cassondra, whom she enjoyed many shopping trips and visits with; and lastly to Comfort Keepers and her live-in caregiver the past month, Carmen, who had a special way with her.
God Took Her to His Loving Home,
God saw her getting tired,
a cure was not to be.
He wrapped her in his loving arms and whispered ‘Come with me.’
She suffered much in silence, her spirit did not bend.
She faced her pain with courage, until the very end.
She tried so hard to stay with us but her fight was not in vain,
God took her to His loving home and freed her from the pain.
