MADISON-Nicholas James “A.J.” Fiore, age 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on Feb. 5, 1942, in Madison, son of Nick and Josephine Fiore. Nick served in the U.S. Army as a tank driver and was on board a ship during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was also a lifeguard and a parachute jumper during his service. As a lifeguard, he saved several lives. Nick earned his B.S. Degree at UW-LaCrosse. He taught school for many years and was also the head football coach at Maple Northwestern, Eau Claire Regis, and Edgewood High Schools. During his beloved coaching career, Nick influenced the lives of many high school athletes. He spent many years as an insurance salesman, and a “land man”. Nick enjoyed the land sales as it took him outside, walking through the woods with his wife to map out remote water front properties. He also loved deer hunting, fishing, golfing and snowmobiling. Nick enjoyed attending both Badgers and Packers football games with his wife, Terri and sons, Nick and Anthony.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 24 years, Terri; the true joys of his life, his loving sons, Nick (Kim) and Anthony (Lisa); brother, Tony; sister, Frances (Milo); and his grandchildren, whom gave him hours of joy and laughter, Marissa, Autumn, Amber, Sienna, Jamie, Ramsy, and Kyler. A.J. was a great storyteller and enjoyed reminiscing about his high school days and growing up in the Greenbush area with his lifelong friends who he kept dear to him and always spoke of them with respect, Bear, Smiley, and Al. He is further survived by his stepchildren, Jeremy (Linda) Peck, Brian (Tara)Peck, and Jennifer Peck; nieces and nephews, Nancy, Pam, Karen, Jean, Carrie, Mark, Mike, Ken, and Lynn; step sister, Shirley and her daughter, Mary Elizabeth; brothers-in-law, Mike (Colleen), David (Tracy), and Dennis (Teri) Guenther. He was preceded in death by his father, Nick; mother, Josephine; and dear niece, Patricia.
