MIDDLETON-Nellie Mae (Biel) (Syse) Brokaw, age 93, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Nellie was born on October 27, 1919, in Birchwood, WI, the daughter of James and Susan (McIntosh) Hobart. She married Walter “Bud” Biel on March 22, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1959. She then married Orville “Rusty” Syse in 1969. He passed away in 1974. Nellie married Max “Pete” Brokaw on October 19, 1980 in Beloit. Nellie graduated valedictorian from Birchwood High School in 1937 and had worked for many years at Madison Gas & Electric. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. Nellie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Pete Brokaw, a son Leroy (Nancy) Biel; daughter Suzanne (Richard) Rasmussen; grandchildren, Michael Biel, Rebecca (Matthew) Streiff, Gregory (Kelli) Biel, Heather Rasmussen, Brian (Theresa) Rasmussen; five great-grandchildren, her dear friend, Be Atkins and several step-children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nellie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at ST. LUKE’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 24, 2012, with the Reverend Heather Lampert presiding. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
