Belleville, WI - Monica Mae (Dolohanty) Francois was released from the clutches of Alzheimer's on December 20, 2012 surrounded and being cared for by her children and grandchildren.  She is once again thinking clearly. Monica was born on December 27, 1931 to John and Martha (Collins) Dolohanty in the Town of Vermont.

Monica graduated from Belleville High School in 1950. Richard Francois asked Monica to be his bride and they married on October 30, 1950 at St. Williams Church in Paoli, Wisconsin. Together, they raised 8 children, worked to build the Francois Companies, Francois Ford and Francois Oil, and became active members of the Belleville Community. 

Being a full blooded Irish woman, Monica was extremely proud of her Irish heritage, she took St Patrick's Day celebrations to a new level. Christmas Eve will never be the same without Monica. She made the magic of believing come alive in the eyes of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Monica played Bridge for years with local friends.  She was an avid reader, and the local librarian once commented that Monica had read every novel in the library. She served as president of the Belleville Library Board.  Monica was the original coordinator of the St. Mary's Church fund raising dinner.  She was always extremely generous to those in need, her generous commitment to the community included special interests in the Belleville Pool, Belleville Medical Clinic, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, and the restoration of Lake Belle View.

She is survived by her children, Faye (John) Rasmussen, Renee (Don) Funseth, Denise Francois (Mike Stollfus), Rick (Carol) Francois, Ed Francois, Jackie (Paul) Gehin, Jay (Helen) Francois, Shelly (John) Sarbacker. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Rick and Clarlie Rasmussen, Faye and Bob Nolden, Casey and Lena Funseth, Erin and James Nolden, Jacob, Drew, Zach and Clair Stollfus, Sarah and Nunzio Gaglianello, Kate and Jared LaFrancois, Jonathon, Margaret and Monica Francois, Emily and Kevin Weber, Tony and Tracey Gehin, Dan (Kayla Schlegel) Gehin, JC and Jeffrey Francois, Macy, Mackenzie, Molly, Montana and Jake Sarbacker and nine great grandchildren, her sister Martha Ann Robbins, her in-laws, Joan and Gerry Donovan, Dave and Desi Francois, Ray and Corrine Francois, Lois and Mike Steckelis, Bonnie Francois, Donna Dolohanty, and many nieces and nephews.  Monica will be greatly missed by her lifelong friend Carolyn Sisson.

Monica was predeceased by her husband Richard in 2006 and her daughter-in-law Julie in October 2012, her parents, brothers Jack and Joe Dolohanty, sisters Mary Mason and Patsy DeHart, in-laws Carlton and Paul Francois, Bill Robbins, Fred DeHart, Howard Schmid, Roy Mason, and Pat Dolohanty.

Monica’s family would like to thank the Belleville Seniors Citizens' Program, especially Peg McNeill and the meal delivery volunteers, Independent Living, the Alzheimer's Association and Sandy Lacy.  The family would also like to thank the Rev. Ken Klink and all other former clergy members of St. Mary of Lourdes and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish who were caring and compassionate neighbors for over sixty years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012, Monica's 81st Birthday, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 338 S. Harrison St., Belleville, WI with the Rev. Michael Moon officiating.

A visitation will precede the Mass from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Belleville.  Immediately following there will be a celebration of Monica's life at the St Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church Hall, 221 Frederick St., Belleville, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Belleville Senior Citizens' Program, Independent Living Program and the Alzheimer's Association.
