SUN PRAIRIE / MADISON-Mildred (Shellum) Swenson passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2012, at the Faith Living Center in Sun Prairie surrounded by the comfort of her family. She was born in Milan, Minnesota on November 25, 1912, the daughter of Joseph and Nellie Hagen Shellum. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday with a wonderful party to honor the occasion. She married Holden Swenson of Deerfield, Wisconsin on May 1, 1935. They shared more than 66 years of marriage. They moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1956. Holden passed away in 2001. Mildred continued to live in their home until the age of 95. At that time she became a resident of Faith Living Center. She was a long-time member of Lake Edge Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Dave) Davis; and her son, Thomas (Catherine) Swenson. She has seven grandchildren, Heidi Madison, Susan (Rick) Davis-Mellum, David (Donna) Davis, Karen (Chuck) Murphree, Daniel (Michelle) Davis, Sonja (Andrew McArdle) Swenson and Grethe (Chad) Isken; five great-grandchildren, Nicole, Rachel, Sydney, Nickolas and Meghan; and two great-great-granddaughters, Jam and Roxanne. She is also survived by two brothers, Harold Shellum and Robert (Marge) Shellum; a sister, Alma Peterson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Holden; her parents; a brother, Kenneth; and two sisters, Alice and Esther.

A Memorial service will be held at the LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2012, with the Rev. Stephen Marsh presiding. Burial will be at the Deerfield Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.Gunderson_Funeral

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. A. J. Musa for his many years of excellent care to both Mildred and Holden. They also wish to share their thanks and appreciation to the Faith Living Center for their care and support during the last six years of Mildred's life and to the Agrace HospiceCare Team for their loving care in her final days. God saw her getting weary, and did what seemed best, just came and stood beside her and whispered...come and rest.
