Merlin Lloyd Stoflet

MADISON-Merlin Lloyd Stoflet, died on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at home in his favorite blue chair, surrounded by his loving wife of 65 years and their children. He was born on March 17, 1927, in Madison, the son of Charles and Olive (Pieper) Stoflet. He lived his entire life in Madison with the exception of the first few years in Lake Mills. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Merlin was united in marriage to Marian Irene Bergeman on March 22, 1947. He then owned and operated Stoflet Carpet Service for the remainder of his life.

Merlin is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Marian; and four children, Lynne (Mike) Nowakowski, Jan (Monty) Schohl, Steve (Marcheta) Stoflet, and Sharon (Ken) DiLoreto. In addition, they were blessed with 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Les, Kenny, Gordon, Irene, LaVerne, and Margie.

A Celebration of Merlin’s Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, with the Rev. Lex Liberatore presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors being conducted. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, with a pass and review at 6:30 p.m., and visitation will also be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

We will be forever grateful for the love and support that was so freely given by Agrace HospiceCare and the VA Hospital. We wish that everyone could experience such kindness and compassion. Some words of wisdom from dad, “Don’t forget where you came from, I feel like a million bucks, and pace yourself.”

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, with a pass and review at 6:30 p.m., and visitation will also be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
