Marlis Catherine McLean, age 87 years of Lake Delton was called to eternal life on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at her residence. She was born on October 29, 1924 at the rural farm home of her parents, Hugh and Ada (Foat) McGowan of New Chester Township, Adams County.
Marlis attended Oak Grove Country School and graduated from Westfield High School. Her first marriage to Art Russell was blessed with 4 children: Carol (Tom Gray) Simonson of Endeavor, Donna (Patrick) Tucker of San Antonio, Dean (Bonnie) Russell of Rockford and Keith (Terry) Russell of Cottage Grove. On February 6, 1954 she was united in marriage to Robert McLean in Portage; he preceded her in death on April 16, 2003. During his army career they lived in many cities in the United States and Munich, Germany. While there 4 years they vacationed in many countries in Europe.
Marlis enjoyed her flower gardens, working summers in Wisconsin Dells, playing cards with family and friends, was a member of the Neenah Valley VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post # 6003, OES Order of Eastern Star Bethlehem Chapter 100 and the Retired Ladies Hosiery Club in Portage. After her husband’s retirement in Denver they moved back building their dream home on Hwy 82 near Oxford. Due to Bob’s ill health they moved to Lake Delton in 2002.
Survivors include her loving children, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters – Margaret Laing of Westfield and Marcella Erickson of Wisconsin Dells, 1 brother –Hugh Duane McGowan and friend – Loretta Swinehart of Oxford, sister in laws – Patricia McLean of Phillips, WI and Shirley McLean of Texas, plus many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Besides her husband’s, she was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brother – Bernard McGowan and Merlin McGowan, sister – Marie Srb, son in law – Jerold Simonson, 3 brother in laws – Irvin Erickson, Jack Laing and Frank Srb, nephew – Larry Laing and niece – Cynthia Baumgartner.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the Picha Funeral Home, Oxford with Rev. Carol Hermann officiating. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Oxford on Friday from 4 – 7 PM. Burial will follow on Saturday at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Brooks at 11:00 AM. “Mom, you gave your love unconditionally to all of us. You will be in our hearts until we meet again at our eternal home with God.”
