Margie Meier

OREGON-Margie Meier, age 71, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012. Margie was born on Dec. 4, 1940, near Chili, Wisc. She was the eighth of ten children, born to Edward and Irene (Gourlie) VerHagen. She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1958. She married her high school sweetheart, Allen Meier on Feb. 7, 1959. They moved to Oregon, where they lived and raised their family. Margie was an active homemaker who spent most of her time helping family and friends. She was known to be a tireless advocate and a source of practical wisdom and guidance for her children and grandchildren. She worked as a home-daycare provider, in retail, and for many years at AnchorBank in Oregon and Stoughton. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and spent many hours creating scrapbooks and quilts for her family. She was a long time member of Holy Mother of Consolation Parish and an active volunteer with the church as a catechism teacher, Eucharistic minister, and funeral worker. She regularly volunteered at the Oregon Food Pantry.

Margie is survived by her husband, Allen Meier of Oregon; five children, Michele (James) Vosberg of Platteville, Debra (Howard) Marg of Wisconsin Rapids, Steven (Tammy) Meier of Lake Mills, Scott (AJ) Meier of Oregon, and Patty (Brent) Herbeck of Carrolton, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Colleen and Meghan Vosberg, Sheila and Alex Marg, Mark and Daniel Meier, Tiffany Helley, T.J. and Tabitha Falch, Meggan Kohel, Cassie Acker, Josh Meier, and Luke and Zachary Herbeck; and four great-grandchildren. Margie is further survived by her brothers, Lester and Luke (Char) VerHagen; sister, Joyce Gilbertson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Kapusta, Liz VerHagen, Lillian VerHagen, Charles and Elaine Glassbrenner, Bill and Virginia Meier; and 48 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Norma (Bud) Tauschek, Elnor Kapusta, and Edna (Alvin) Kapusta; brothers, Howard, Harlow (Laura) and Larry VerHagen; brother-in-law, Clarence Gilbertson; and four nephews.
