COLUMBUS/MADISON—Margaret E. Barnhart age 86, formerly of Columbus, died on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Hyland Park, Fitchburg. She was born on June 14, 1926 in the Methodist Parsonage in Reedsburg to Rev. Thomas and Lizette (Alt) Beavin. Margaret graduated as Valedictorian from Richland Center High School in 1944 and was a 1945 graduate of the Milwaukee Business School. She was employed at the Wood VA Hospital in Milwaukee as a Medical Secretary. Margaret was married to Kermit Barnhart on August 28, 1948 in Richland Center. In addition to working as a homemaker and raising her three children, Margaret was very active in her church, both as a member of the United Methodist Women and serving as church librarian. In her spare time, she collected angels, crafted the art of calligraphy, and was an avid reader. Margaret also researched and organized genealogy on both sides of the family and was a lifetime Badger, Packer and Brewer fan. Family gatherings were always a highlight for Margaret and gave her many happy memories.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Kermit of Fitchburg; one daughter, Edee (Mike) Woerdehoff of Oregon, WI; two sons, Kirk of Kaukauna, WI and Kent (Karen) of Cartersville, GA; two granddaughters, Erin (Dave) Harley and Meghan (David) Gansauge; three grandsons, Kyle, Kristopher and Kevin Barnhart; three great grandchildren, Allycen, Olivia and William Harley; a brother, Bart (Helen) Beavin of Ann Arbor, MI; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Kathryn (Gilbert) Terman and Dorothy (Clarence) Gorman; one brother Paul (Kathleen Barnhart) Beavin.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the COLUMBUS UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Columbus. Pastor Ray Field and Pastor Jim Cotter will officiate. Interment will be in the Richland Center Cemetery, Richland Center. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the church on Sunday. Memorials may be directed to the Columbus United Methodist Church or Agrace HospiceCare Inc., Fitchburg.
