CROSS PLAINS-Leonard L. Yelk, age 95, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2013. He was born on February 23, 1918 in the township of Cottage Grove, the son of Frank and Agnes (Getzinger) Yelk. Leonard married Cecilia Brings on May 8, 1954 in Cross Plains, where they have lived ever since.

Leonard was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Catholic Knights Society. He worked for many years for the Wisconsin Bell Telephone Co., in Madison. After his retirement in 1983, he devoted countless hours doing odd jobs around St. Francis Xavier church and school and cleaning the church every week for years.

Leonard is survived by his wife Cecilia; four children, Carolyn (Dennis) Meyer, Mark, Ellen (Brian) Yelk of Cross Plains, and Paul (Kellie) of Okauchee; brothers Robert and Zeno (Jean); sisters, Ruth Suchomel and Lorraine Yelk; brother-in-law Frank Snow; sisters-in-law Gerty and Barbara; three grandchildren Valerie (Alexander) Meyer-Hogg, Melissa Meyer and Daniel (Rebecca) Meyer; great-granddaughter Evelyn Hogg and many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Marilyn; brothers Harvey and Vernon; a sister Dorothy Snow; brother-in-law Roman Suchomel and a sister-in-law Bernice Yelk.

A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 7:00 PM with Father Thomas Kelley presiding. Visitation will be held on Monday from 5:00 PM until the time of the rosary at 6:40 PM at the church. Private burial will be at a later date.
