DEERFIELD-Kenneth F. Deerwester, age 85, of Deerfield, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 8, 1927, in Hinsdale, Ill., the son of Richard and Ora Deerwester. Ken served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He graduated from Ripon College where he met the love of his life, Donna Stone. They were married on Nov. 24, 1951. Ken was a lifetime Benefactor NRA member and a NRA certified gun safety instructor. He was also a member of the Badger Knife Club. Ken enjoyed playing and sharing music with his family and others.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Scott (JoAnn) Deerwester; daughter, Terri (George) Koury; sisters, Ellen Fuller and Luella (David) Ratajczak; five grandchildren, Joel Deerwester, Jaron Deerwester, Kayla (Wade) Bruce, Janelle Deerwester, and Hannah Koury; nephew, Jerry Ratajczak; and nieces, Debbie (Alex) Milovic, Val (Rick) Claydon, Karen (Randy) O'Hare, Lori Newman, Amy Ratajczak and Mary (Bill) Wright.

Funeral services will be held at BETHESDA CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP, 3245 E. Washington Avenue, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, with his son, Scott Deerwester presiding. A luncheon will follow the service. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staffs at So Close to Home and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and support. Ken was a man of integrity, character and faithfulness. He was and is much loved by his family and the many others whose lives he touched.
